EHRA was selected by the client to provide engineering design and to serve as District Engineer for the 2,400 acre Towne Lake Development. Our survey department retraced the overall boundary and performed a topographic survey of the site.
Engineering design and construction phase services of water, sewer, drainage and paving for four subdivision sections and off-site channel (123 acres out of a 400 acre subdivision). There was 60-feet of elevation difference on this site and wooded lots were left in their natural state which required the installation of retaining walls.
The purpose of this project was to convert the existing at-grade crossing of Brazoria County Road 56 (CR 56) and State Highway 288 (SH 288) into a diamond interchange that includes a new overpass bridge and providing access to the newly developed Meridiana Development. Coordination with TXDOT, area landowners, utility companies, and Brazoria County was integral in obtaining approval and acceptance of the project. The main design challenge for this project was to accommodate double intersections on the west side of SH 288 to tie into existing access roads with two-way traffic and a new southbound on-ramp within a close proximity. EHRA coordinated with TxDOT throughout the project from preliminary concepts for the intersection and bridge through final design and construction. Each component of this project was designed in accordance with TxDOT standards and criteria.
The facility features an activated sludge process system. Additionally, the facility is equipped with an emergency standby diesel generator.
EHRA performed preliminary drainage area delineations for nine creek crossings and calculated approximate 100-year flows for each culvert crossing. Culvert structures were sized for each of the six crossings, ranging from 48” round pipe culverts up to dual 5’x5’ box culverts.
As National Landscape Architecture Month draws to a close, it is appropriate to announce exciting growth at EHRA regarding our LA Team and our capabilities. Earlier this year, Christopher Browne, LEED AP was promoted to Managing Director of the Planning & Visioning, Platting and Landscape Architecture service areas. Chris has been with EHRA for 18 years, previously managing the day-to-day operations of the Land Planning team. As a multi-disciplinary team, EHRA has sought to fully integrate our services to provide the most comprehensive solutions for our developer clients. In Chris’ oversight role, he will further integrate the design capabilities of the Landscape Architecture and Land Planning teams as well as add exciting new project visualization tools.
Landscape Architecture has long been a service provided by EHRA, serving our developer clients throughout the Greater Houston region. The LA Team has designed and constructed numerous community parks, neighborhood and regional trails, community entry monuments and recreation centers. The team recently completed a Parks Master Plan for the City of Friendswood and is currently working with multiple Municipal Utility Districts and Developers on new exciting community designs, parks and trails. Our talented landscape architecture team includes Project Manager, Cristian Gonzalez and Landscape Designer, Stephanie Gutierrez, with Jeff Boutte, RLA, AICP providing quality assurance.
Coincidentally in the month of April, we are excited to celebrate adding new Landscape Team Members: Rene Nunez has joined us as Landscape Project Manager and Callie Whitbeck as Landscape Designer. Welcoming them to the team enhances EHRA’s process of creating great outdoor spaces within communities.
Landscape Architecture is obviously an important component in creating communities that consider the built and natural environments and the people living and working within them. The growth of our LA Team is being done to achieve a full-service product for our clients, from pencil-sketched ideas to design implementation in the field. These are in essence the bookend services of any landscape project. By creating amazing illustrative graphics before construction drawings are begun, we can communicate with clients what the project will look like in as realistic a format as possible. And, finishing with site observation, the LA Team can guarantee that materials and methods as specified have resulted in a superior landscape installation. In between, charrettes, design development, client review, construction documentation and QA/QC all fall into place before going to bid.
Other exciting new services are on the horizon at EHRA. In conjunction with EHRA’s Survey and GIS Teams, the Planning and Landscape Architecture Teams are implementing aerial drone photography and photogrammetry services to aid in site analysis and design. These new visualization tools will be invaluable in understanding existing site conditions and will provide a digital library reference throughout a project. Additionally, aerial coverage can track project construction and provide our site observation teams with detailed as-built information.
In celebration of National Landscape Architecture Month, EHRA is proud to shine a light on our team’s creative capabilities and welcome our newest team members!
